The two Queens, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary, transported troops from north America.
In June 1942 Venomous was escorting RMS Queen Elizabeth into the Clyde when its temperamental engines broke down and it spent a month in Londonderry being repaired, a welcome opportunity for the crew to go on leave.
